Recommend PC specs for using PartFinder

Hi Team,

What specs are important when selecting a PC to use PartFinder?
We have a project using PartFinder where takt time is important.

For example,

  • Is Core-i7 faster than Core-i5?
  • GPU specs have more impact than CPU?
  • What is the minimum memory required?

For example, can you state the recommended PC specs as follows?

  • CPU: Core-i5 14400F
  • Memory: 32GB
  • GPU: GeForce RTX4060 8GB

Warm regards,
Kenzo

Hi,

Unfortunately, we cannot set a fixed specification to guarantee a takt time for the use of PartFinder.

What is the minimum memory required?

Runtime and memory consumption depend on the camera used, the 3D model searched for and the PartFinder settings.
A usual PartFinder search in NxView might have peaks of ~1.5GB memory consumption. A system with 32GB should be enough.

GPU specs have more impact than CPU?

Only one part of the PartFinder algorithm can be outsourced to the graphics card, the actual template search. If no graphics card is used for acceleration at all, this one usually takes up half of the calculation time, the rest goes into things like preparation and refinement. A powerful graphics card can therefore not reduce the runtime by more than half.

Is Core-i7 faster than Core-i5?

If a more powerful CPU is used (an Intel i7 of the same generation is usually more powerful than an Intel i5) then this definitely has an impact on the runtime of PartFinder, as PartFinder parallelizes computation where possible and distribute the computing requirements across the available cores.

Hi Joel,

Thank you for your detailed answer.
Customer said that the information that CPU is more effective than GPU helps them choose a PC.
