Problem / Question

When we load a .stl into the partfinder, we can see that the origin of the model is shifted from the original .stl’s origin.
From what I have seen it looks like the origin is shifted into the AABB center (axis aligned bounding box), is that correct?
I assume that this shift is necessary for a better accuracy.

Thanks in advance,
René Horstmann

Hello,

It is correct that PartFinder sets the origin internally to the center of the BoundingBox.

However, when outputting the results of a search, it refers to the original origin from the 3D model. Therefore, the display of the origin in the dialog is misleading and we will display it at the original location in an upcoming release.

with kind regards

Dear Rene, moving the origin is also necessary to visualize viewpoint sampling, because the axis of any rotational symmetry (continuous or discrete) always passes through the center of the bounding box.

Best wishes, Grisha.
