Question

Hey all, just a general question. I’m needing to fixture the calibration panel, but before I did so, I wanted to check if the black triangle in the corner needs to be fully visible?

Hi @dschroeder_IS,

this information is indeed missing on the Calibration Plates manual page. We will add it in the future.

  • for the old Halcon calibration targets with 7x7 dots, the corner triangle is indeed used to detect the plate orientation. So it needs to be visible.
  • with the current Ensenso calibration targets with diagonal grid, you don’t need the triangle to be visible, because the encoding supports partial observations and therefore the orientation is already encoded in the pattern itself. The triangle is basically left as orientation for the user, but not needed.

Please also note that the print is not precision aligned to the substrate. Newer plates (the 390x390mm glass substrate) have cross marks in the print, which can be used for alignment. But if you use the calibration plate for camera calibration or hand-eye calibration, its position is not relevant anyway.

best regards, Rainer
